Sherborne Crowned Interclub Champions

This year’s final of the Silver Interclub competition was held on Monday 23rd September at Crane Valley, between the Dorset Golf and Country Club and Sherborne.
The course was in great condition and the stage was set for a thrilling final. The weather was  very unkind and all the matches were played from the off in wet conditions that alternated between heavy drizzle and very steady rain. Despite this, the players produced some great golf in what were very close matches, with players battling through to the closing holes.

Sherborne came out on top, achieving three wins to DGCC’s one, meaning that the last match, which was still live coming down the 17th fairway, could be called in out of the rain.
The day was a celebration of golf with all matches being played in a good spirit. The enthusiasm of club members coming along to support their teams was not dampened by the weather.
Trophies were presented to both teams by our President, Jo Hadley, with congratulations and credit being paid to both teams by our Captain, Claire Bird.
Our thanks go to Crane Valley for hosting this event and looking after all involved so well.

Interclub Semi Finals Lyme Regis

The 2024 Interclub semi-finals were played on a blustery, autumnal day on 10th September. Both matches were played in a good spirit and produced some close results.

At Lyme Regis, the Dorset Golf and Country Club were victorious over last year’s winners, Knighton Heath. The teams were very evenly matched with only a handful of shots being given across the five games. The last match out on the course was heading down the 19th when the word was passed to them that DGCC had clinched the vital third win and hence the match.

Meanwhile, at Knighton Heath, Sherborne narrowly squeaked a win over Crane Valley. One game was decided on the 19th and the match was lying tied at two games apiece when the last pair approached the 18th tee. With teammates looking on (but trying not to be seen to avoid putting players off) the game resulted in a one hole victory to Sherborne. Nail-biting stuff for both teams!

There were some long journeys home for some players, but some great golf played by all concerned.

Our thanks go to the host clubs, Lyme Regis and Knighton Heath for providing us with the courtesy of the course and their hospitality in providing post-match teas.

The final between the Dorset Golf and Country Club and Sherborne will be on Monday 23rd September at Crane Valley Golf Club.
