Dorset Ladies County Golf Association

First Team 2025

Captain:  Harriet Teversham.  Manager: Claire Bird. Coach: Paul Jones

The team represents Dorset at the South West Region County Match Week. This leads onto a National Final should the county win.

Several criteria are considered to help decide on players for the squad for the season. These include WHS handicap, recent form in club, county and national competitions.

The team selection is based on what is best for the team and the type of competition we are entering.

The Dorset First Team County Squad is made up of twelve players.

In preparation for County Match Week, the First Team will play a series of warm up fixtures to provide match experience and all players are expected to attend pre-season training sessions.

Harriet Teversham.  First Team Captain

"Hello I'm Harriet, and my home Club is Yeovil.  I am very much looking forward to continuing the role of Dorset Ladies 1st Team Captain this year.

We had a very successful 2024 season, winning South West Match week at Perranporth GC in Cornwall and qualifying to the County Finals at Stover, GC in Devon. It's a privilege to be a part of the team and I feel honoured to Captain such a talented group of female golfers!

The team this year is as strong as ever, and we have a structured training schedule in place, to focus us on another year of success. So I’m really excited to see what the season brings!"  "

What we have done so far in 2025

Christmas catch up at Ferndown Forest - This was our first session back as a team after the finals in September and to kick start the training for 2025 in the Christmas spirit! We utilised the driving range at Ferndown Forest to catch up as a group and with coach Paul, we spoke about what we are looking to achieve this year and improve on the course from a game point of view. Following this we practised by splitting into teams for some fun but competitive practise that included shot shaping / chipping / target and alignment focus.

Pilates - The 1st Team participated in an online zoom session with Theresa , who kindly ran a golf dedicated Pilates session for us. Some of our team already commit to extra curricular exercise that benefits their golf , including Pilates, so it was great to get the whole team involved and show the benefits it can have. we very much enjoyed it and was good fun!

Psychology with Jon Adler / Course management at Sturminster Marshall  - We started our February training session with a morning session provided by Jon, who the 1st team worked alongside last year to look a mental aspects of the game. Some team members joined on Zoom and some in person.

The team benefited from these sessions as it opened more communication channels amongst the team allowing a better understanding of players preferences and how we can be most successful working together . Those in person then went on the course at Sturminster Marshall with coach Paul to talk course management and placement.

2024

For the second year running Dorset win the South West Iner-counties Match week.

Huge “Congratulations” to Dorset First team who retained the SW Trophy by winning the Championship at Perranporth.

The team have worked hard together over the winter and all that hard work paid off. The camaraderie and support within the team was amazing, the golf exceptional and the win, incredible.

It was a very proud moment for Claire and Harriet to be presented with the trophy amongst such prestigious people and a real honour to be crowned SW Champions.

As a result of the success, the team now go forward to represent the SW at the National Finals, September 20-22nd, at Stover GC.

Thanks go to all the players, a heroic captain, Harriet, who carried us over the line, Paul who was so inspirational throughout, Sue ( our stand in president) who undertook a number of roles that helped the week to run so smoothly, Claire, who managed the team and all the preparations, and to all the support team –Mick, parents, friends, and Stitch the dog!

See you at Stover - All support welcome.

English Women's County Finals 2024

Friday September 20th - Sunday 22nd September 2024

The first team, after their success at the Inter counties week went on to compete in the English Women’s County Finals, hosted at Stover GC, Devon. Despite battling hard in all matches, a victory against last year’s champions and rained delayed games they were unable to find the same form that got them there.

Congratulations to Harriet Teversham for leading the team and to Scarlett Phillips on her debut performance.

Claire Bird
